Your Tax Records - Keep 'Em or Shred 'Em?

March 03, 2023

In general, as this article from Forbes suggests, you need to keep your records for 3 years from the date you filed your tax return. So, for example, if you filed your 2019 tax return on April 1st of 2020, you can dispose of your records this spring.

As a reminder to our clients, we have a document disposal service that picks up and shreds documents for us and you are welcome to take advantage of our arrangement. Just bring your old records by the office the next time you come by and we'll be happy to make sure that they're safely disposed of. You're welcome to come by anytime, just let us know so we're expecting you.
