Larry Maddox, CFP®, CPA

Larry Maddox, CFP®, CPA

Partner, President

Larry’s professional career began at national CPA firm Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. followed by Deloitte & Touche.  In 1981, Larry formed his own CPA firm and in 1985, Joe Thomson joined him to create Maddox Thomson & Associates, P.C., which continues to assist clients with  compliance and advice on personal and business income tax matters.

Larry founded Horizon Wealth Advisors in Houston, Texas in 1999 with Joe Thomson.  Horizon was founded as a way to extend our advice and counsel beyond the tax business.  Since then, as Partner and President of Horizon Wealth Advisors, Larry has worked with clients in all aspects of wealth management and financial planning.  Along with the team at Horizon, he collaborates with clients as well as with external advisors to provide comprehensive wealth management services.

Larry attended the University of Texas (UT) at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and an MBA with a concentration in finance and accounting. Larry is a CPA, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®), and a registered member of the National Association of Personal Financial Planners (NAPFA). Larry is also a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and a founding member of a national group of financial advisors who work together to share ideas about how best to serve their clients and manage their practices.

Outside of the office, Larry is involved with several foundations, including the Good Earth Foundation, the George H. and Anna W Bellows Foundation and the Jesse W Couch Foundation.  These foundations support multiple national and local charities. In his free time, Larry enjoys traveling with his high-school sweetheart (to whom he has been married since 1975) and spending time with his daughter and her family including his first granddaughter.  He also enjoys birdwatching, playing golf, and cooking meals to complement his wine collection.
