Lawrence E. Maddox, Partner

A third generation Houstonian and graduate of Lamar High School, Larry attended the University of Texas at Austin. He received his BA in Economics in 1975 and an MBA with a concentration in finance and accounting in 1977. After graduation, Larry worked for Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. and Deloitte & Touche - two of the then "Big 8" accounting firms. He performed audit and tax work and earned his CPA during the next four years, before leaving public accounting to become controller of a small, family-owned and run oil and gas service firm.
In 1981, Larry formed his own CPA firm and in 1985, Joe Thomson joined him to create Maddox Thomson & Associates, P.C. (MTA ). Larry became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in 1988. Several years later, in 1999, Larry and Joe formed Horizon Advisors, LLC. In 2007, Larry was accepted for membership in the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).
Larry works with clients in all facets of the wealth management process. His involvement includes helping clients to define their personal goals and objectives and strategic planning. He collaborates with our team of professionals and other strategic partners to provide income and estate tax planning, investment portfolio design and implementation, legacy and planned giving advice and to address other client-specific concerns.
Larry married his high school sweetheart, Donna Magill, in 1975 and they have one daughter. Larry is a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Houston Country Club. He has been active in a number of local charities, including the American Cancer Society, the Kinkaid School and the Houston Texans Charity Golf Classic. In his free time Larry enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf.
