Joseph W. Thomson, Partner
Originally from Starkville, MS, Joe attended The University of Mississippi. He graduated cum laude in 1974 with a B.B.A. in Accounting. He completed requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant in 1976 and received his Juris Doctorate in 1978, also from The University of Mississippi. That same year Joe moved to Houston and joined the firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. In 1985, Joe joined with Larry Maddox to create the accounting firm of Maddox Thomson & Associates, P.C.
In 1988, he completed the requirements to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™certificant. With the founding of Horizon Advisors in 1999, Joe and Larry were able to add investment planning and investment management services to their financial planning services. Joe's focus at both Maddox, Thomson & Associates and Horizon Advisors is client relationships, business development, and income and estate tax planning.
Married to the former Anne Sewell, Joe has three sons who were born in Houston. Joe is an active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, serving on its Vestry and as Junior Warden. Joe is also a member of the Houston Country Club. In the past, Joe served in various capacities on the Board of Directors, as an Officer, and as a Coach in the Post Oak Pony and Little Leagues.
